Probability is “the extent to which something is probable; the likelihood of something happening or being the case.” Odds are “a ratio of the probability that an event will occur versus the probability that the event will not occur, or probability / (1-probability).” So now that the math lesson is over, lets talk about odds since we are all about the them here at US Hole In One!

Despite the excitement, those odds are not good. Here are some things you have a better shot at based on the odds….

  • An amateur golfer making a hole in one on a par 3 hole are roughly 12,500 to 1.
  • A professional golfer making a hole in one on a par 3 hole are about 2,500 to 1.
  • We can surmise the odds of someone making a hole in one at your event. Assuming that your golf outing has a standard field of approximately 100 amateurs, and your golf course has the standard four par 3 holes, the chances of someone in your tournament making an ace are roughly 1 in 32.
  • Have you’ve heard a tale of two players making a hole in one on the same hole in the same event? The chances of this  feat happening are incredibly slim, making it roughly 32,000 to 1.
  • Or perhaps you’ve heard about the golfer who made aces on consecutive par 3 holes: the odds of that feat run at nearly 156,250,000 to 1 as well, or roughly the same chances as winning the Powerball lottery.
  • Winning an Olympic medal are 662,000 to 1.
  • Getting a royal flush in poker on first five cards dealt are 649,740 to 1.
  • Finding four-leaf clover on 1st try are 10,000 to 1.
  • Bowling a perfect 300 is 11,500 to 1

So, what do you think, are you going to beat the odds at any of these?
