PGA Tour… These Guys Are Good!

They definitely say that for a reason. The PGA Tour has most of the top ranked players in the world and numerous others who are just as talented. Last week, the PGA Tour was at Abbey Golf Club in Canada for the Canadian Open. The holes in one just kept coming. Despite the annoying rain delay, this was truly a very eventful tournament. Mark Calcavecchia made 9 birdies in a row which is mind boggling! There were 7 holes in one for the week too. Both these events were new PGA Tour Records. An article by Jeremy Sandler on network.nationalpost.com states that PGA Tour officials are assuming that is an all-time record for holes-in-one, though it can only be verified as far back as 1971.

Leif Olson’s hole in one was the most heralded. His ball landed on the green, ricocheted off his playing partners ball, which was also on the green, and went into the hole. However Dashiell Bennett of deadspin.com informs us that:

“Leif Olson was just one of four players to get a hole-in-one on the 15th at Glen Abbey Golf Club. And that was just the second round. (Casey Wittenberg, Arjun Atwal and Briny Baird were the others.) BMW, who promised a Z4 Roadster to anyone who could stick the landing at the 132-yard hole, will pay up to all four golfers. By the way, a fully-loaded Z4 goes for about $51,000.”

Mike Weir ended the hole in one binge when he made the 7th ace of the tournament. PGATour.com tells us that he aced the 200 yard 4th hole with a 4 iron. These pros keep the entertainment coming.
