As the 2016 Summer Olympics quickly approaches, we witnessed some drama this past week as professional golfers announced whether or not they would join the US men’s team. There is growing concern about the Zika Virus in Brazil, along with political unrest and security concerns. As a result, some players have opted out of traveling to Rio to participate.

Currently, the US Olympic men’s golf team consists of pros Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed, and Bubba Watson. Both Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson have decided that they do not want to play, receiving mixed responses from the public. Jordan Spieth described “health issues” as his reason for being unable to participate, and Dustin Johnson cited the risk of Zika Virus as well. It is yet to be seen whether other players will withdraw from the competition.

This is the first time golf will be rejoining the Olympics after 112 years. While your next golf tournament may not feature any Olympic pros, including a hole in one contest, putting contest, or shootout contest is still a great way to add excitement and grand prizes to your event!
